What a summer!

I had really hoped that this summer would be an easy, relaxed one. Sabrina starts school in 17 days, and, so far, this summer has been insane!

I found out earlier this week that I have to have a root canal, so I'm going next week to have it done. Thankfully it's on a weekend, so Chris will be home to deal with the kids!

My ablation surgery is on the 21st, and I'm looking forward to having that over and done with.

James had his EEG a few weeks ago. We got the results yesterday, and, thankfully, everything came back completely normal! Given the fact that I have epilepsy, the neurologist wanted to rule out any seizure activity in James. So far things are coming back great with him. Per all the evaluations, he does NOT have Autism or Asperger's Disorder. He is just very intense and, even at his most laid back, his emotions are just "more" than average. All in all, he boils down to just average. There are some areas that he tested at just under a 3 year old level, but other areas he was testing at a 4 year old level. The evaluators said that a score of 118-120 is average. James came in at 132. He's very bright, just very intense. They said his speech should improve the more he's around other kids.

Since his health is so much better than what it was even a year ago, I'm more comfortable with him being around other kids. Over the past 2 years, anytime he was around other kids, he was sick within 3 days, usually with croup. When he was 18 months old, he started having problems with croup, and had it 9 times between September and January. That was a very long winter. Last year he only had 1 bout. It appears that we have it under control. His cyclic vomiting syndrom is under control, too, provided he stays on his daily medication for it. Hopefully we're over the worst of all his health issues!

Blue Table Play Date

So, it took all year to get together outside of our MOPS meeting. And it took me almost 2 months to actually post these, but the Blue Table finally got together! We Rayna, Samantha, and I met over at Stephanie's house for a morning of coffee, chatting, and kids playing. The kids had a great time playing together, and the photographer in Rayna popped out to capture the moments for us.

Prayers

I am really praying that we can get James into preschool on a scholarship this fall. The occupational & speech therapists, as well as the pediatric psychologist, all feel that being in a preschool environment will "force" James to keep his temper under control, as well as assist with his speaking. His scores on everything came out to average. He's placing just under the age of 3 in a few areas, right at a 3 year old level on others, and up to a 4 year old level in others. Basically he's just a bright kid...he just has some weird sensory issues. They said he does NOT have Autism or Asperger's Disorder.

Sabrina is going to Calvary Chapel up in Merritt Island for their VPK program. I'm filling out a scholarship application now for James, in hopes that if we can pay 50% of the tuition costs, maybe we can get a scholarship for the remainder, plus I put on there that I can contribute daily in office assistance and / or be a teacher's aide. Hopefully by showing my willingness to work, they'll be more likely to consider giving the scholarship.

I had my results appointment yesterday, and I am a candidate for the endometrial ablation. They'll call in a few weeks and set up the surgery date. The good news with that is that I will only be "out of commission" for a few days. Since they do the proceedure on Thursday mornings, I'd be home by Thursday afternoon, and should be back to normal by Monday. Chris will be able to take a few days off of work, as we have a lot of leave time and comp. time available.

That's pretty much all that's going on here. I was going to be heading for New York this weekend, but, due to health issues on my sister-in-law's end, that's postponed until some other time. So, I'm going to hit the outlet mall this weekend, without kids, for some much needed retail therapy.

Oh, What Fun!

I have a prayer request. I'll just copy and paste it from my blog so that you can see what we need prayers for. We're getting really frustated because they haven't even started fixing the problem yet...

We had a plumber come out to fix a leaking shower valve. It turned out to be much, much more than just a leak, though. After Dustin tore the tile out, he noticed that we have a major mold problem. Thankfully, the plumber recommended a company to come out to address the new household issue.

Not long after the valve was repaired, someone came out to assess the mold damage. That’s when we found out that it will cost at least $10,000 to fix everything! Thankfully, this will be covered by insurance. The only real issue is getting the work done in a timely manner so that we don’t have to live in a hotel for long.

Just a few quick notes

We have some good news! James' evaluations have been set up with the speech / sensory therapist and child psychologist! I really thought it would take much longer to get it set up - we've only been waiting since April. He goes for his first neurologist visit next week, and then his evaluations are on the 9th. Hopefully we're a little closer to finding some answers!

I wanted to ask that you guys keep me in your prayers. I've been having some female issues for awhile, so have started seeing a doctor and am in the process of being tested to see if I'm a candidate for an endometrial ablation, and hopefully that will stop the problems. If I'm not a candidate, then we look at what our other options are. I think the only other option would be a hysterectomy. It doesn't surprise me, as all the women on my mom's side of the family have had early problems. Just keep me in your prayers over the next several weeks. I should know something by July 15.

Who's going to "Play" Place tomorrow?

Hi all! I've just had a wonderful time with different guests at my house the past couple weeks! One was my best friend/roomie from college, another roommate from college, then the best friend's sister and husband came for the weekend. We had a blast...going out to eat at new places, going to Sea World with the boys, and mainly hanging out at the pool.

I want to go tomorrow so very badly, but I've spent SO much money with friends in town. The struggle....inside play place....versus....money. Aaargh. However, the nice news is that with it raining, sometimes it's nice to go outside afterward (if it rains early enough).

Anyway, hope you all are having a great summer!! What are you up to?

Soooo HOT!

Well, I guess it's after Memorial Day, so the switch for hottest place on earth is switched on! Yuck!! I hope you all have mulled over the possibility of meeting for dinner on Thursday for MNO. I will not be able to make it. Shaun and I have tag-teamed duties (we're even having to farm kids off one night ~ thanks Michele) last night, tonight, and tomorrow night. So, Thursday will be unwind. Although, now we are thinking of going to West Palm Beach. We'll probably leave Thursday afternoon and return Saturday night. We would be gone Sunday as well, but it is promotion Sunday, and we are both involved in children/youth ministry.

Are any of you going on trips this month? What exciting things do you have planned?

**I know this is not a very informative blog...my boys are napping. I have already had quiet time, checked the mail, made some phone calls, and played Wii ~ just long enough to find out my Wii age grew from 27 to 33. So, I needed something to do to quietly take up a little more time!

Women of Faith Conference

A friend and I are going to go to the Women of Faith conference in November. I know it's just a month after the MOPS convention, but it is really cheap. Plus, since it's in Florida, there won't be any airfare. :) . I just thought I would share the link.

Conference info here.

Connor did fine!

Yippee! Thanks for the prayers. He made it through fine. The medicine knocked him out completely, and he did not wake up at all during the MRI. I wish I had been able to take a picture of him. They swaddle him up using sheets, tape, blankets, and velcro. The only thing we could see of him was his face. He is awake now, although he walks like a drunken sailor. The medicine should be out of his system tomorrow morning. We'll see how long it takes to get back on a normal sleep cycle!

Connor's MRI tomorrow

Connor's MRI is possibly tomorrow. He is a little congested, so they may not be able to do it. Please, pray for us tonight and tomorrow. We will be sleep depriving him tonight. I'll post the outcome tomorrow. Thanks!

Prayer Request

Please pray for my cousin Amanda McDonald. She is on ly 20 years old and has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Melanoma. She and her parents are heading up to Lakeland, FL tomorrow morning. She has an appointment with a specialist at noon. Sometime this week they will be performing surgery. If you could keep her and her family in your prayers I would appreciate it. My Aunt Robin is really having a hard time with this as she had to be the "strong one" 2 years ago when my Uncle Jeff was diagnosed with a rare form of thyroid cancer.Amanda & my Uncle Jeff

Question of the day: 1

What did you do with your time and talents before you were a mommy?

Friday, May 16, 2008

Moms are Angels

I thought you all might like this...

A baby asked God, “They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?” God said, “Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you.”

The child further inquired, “But tell me, here in heaven I don’t have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy.” God said, “Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel’s love and be very happy.”

Again the child asked, “And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don’t know the language?” God said, “Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak.”

“And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?” God said, “Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray.”

“Who will protect me?” God said, “Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life.”

“But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore.” God said, “Your angel will always talk to you about me and will teach you the way to come back to me, even though I will always be next to you.”

At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, “God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel’s name.” God said, “You will simply call her Mom.”
